Port of Rotterdam Leads Dutch Seaports in Cybersecurity, Electrification, and Smart Solutions

Resillion to start penetration testing

We’re proud to announce that the Port of Rotterdam has awarded Resillion the tender for Security and Penetration Testing!

The Port of Rotterdam is fully committed to developing a smart infrastructure, utilising sensors, real-time data, and AI to optimise operations

This makes it one of the leading ports in adopting smart solutions, although other major ports around the world are also investing heavily in similar technologies

In an era where digital threats are ever-evolving, the Port of Rotterdam is setting a benchmark for cybersecurity and digital transformation across Dutch seaports. Through a series of strategic initiatives, the port is enhancing its digital resilience and paving the way for other seaports in the Netherlands to follow suit.

One of the cornerstone efforts is the expansion of the FERM Foundation, initially established in 2021 for the Port of Rotterdam. This initiative will now serve as a national cybersecurity platform, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among all Dutch

seaports. Additionally, the Cybersecurity Program for the North Sea Canal Area (NZKG) aims to bolster awareness and resilience in the Amsterdam port region.

The port is also pioneering the use of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to secure communication channels, making it the first port authority to test this cutting-edge technology. Complemented by the development of Post-Quantum Encryption (PQC) systems, these efforts are part of a broader innovation strategy designed to stay ahead of emerging threats.

Key Cybersecurity Statistics:

  • 30% of logistics companies in the Port of Rotterdam have little or no cyber security measures in place.
  • 20% of logistics companies have been temporarily shut down due to cyber incidents.
  • 58% of companies reported malware incidents due to employees downloading malicious files.

Moreover, the Port of Rotterdam is embracing digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. A recent trial of digital bunker delivery notes, in collaboration with ZeroNorth and Vitol, exemplifies the port’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.

Through these initiatives, the Port of Rotterdam is not only safeguarding its infrastructure but also setting a precedent for the global maritime industry. By integrating advanced technologies and fostering a culture of collaboration, the port is leading the charge towards a secure and sustainable future for Dutch seaports.
