Matter interoperability: Building the future of seamless smart technology with Telink

In the rapidly evolving world of the Internet of Things (IoT), interoperability is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity. As smart devices become increasingly embedded in our daily lives, the ability for these devices to communicate across ecosystems is essential. The Matter protocol, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), is a universal connectivity standard designed to ensure that devices from different manufacturers work together reliably, securely, and seamlessly.

At the heart of this transformation is the drive for robust, scalable, and user-friendly solutions that can keep pace with the dynamic nature of smart technology. Matter addresses this by offering a unified framework that simplifies development and enhances the user experience. However, ensuring that devices meet these standards and continue to function optimally amid frequent updates is a complex challenge. This is where automated interoperability testing becomes vital.

The role of automated testing in matter interoperability

Automated testing frameworks tailored for Matter interoperability are revolutionising how manufacturers validate their devices. These systems allow for efficient, repeatable, and scalable testing of endpoints across multiple ecosystems. By identifying potential issues early, manufacturers can maintain high standards of performance and reliability, even as ecosystems evolve.

Our automated Matter Interoperability Testing Service is designed to meet these needs. It enables low-effort, high-precision testing of Matter endpoints, ensuring that devices continue to function as expected despite the rapid pace of updates and changes in the ecosystem. This service not only complements existing certification processes but also introduces greater flexibility, allowing for more frequent and accessible testing.

Understanding the importance of interoperability

Consumers today expect their devices to work together effortlessly, regardless of brand or platform. They want to move freely between ecosystems without being hindered by proprietary limitations. Matter makes this vision a reality by enabling consistent and reliable performance across a wide range of devices and platforms.

For manufacturers, this means addressing several key priorities:

  • Robustness: Devices must be reliable and responsive, maintaining readiness and performance under all conditions.
  • Interoperability: Seamless integration across ecosystems is essential for user satisfaction.
  • Stability: Devices must perform consistently in diverse environments and configurations.
  • Adaptability: As standards and use cases evolve, devices must be able to adapt quickly and effectively.

Telink Semiconductor: A leader in wireless connectivity

One of the most exciting collaborations in our Matter interoperability journey is with Telink Semiconductor, a global leader in wireless connectivity SoCs. Telink is a fabless IC design company with a strong track record in developing state-of-the-art wireless solutions. Their products are widely used in smart lighting, home automation, consumer electronics, medical devices, logistics, and more.

Telink’s SoCs power devices from some of the world’s most recognisable brands, including Logitech, Panasonic, Nvidia, Sharp, Harman, and many others. Their commitment to innovation and quality has positioned them as a key player in the global IoT landscape.

Importantly, Telink is also a highly active contributor to the Matter community. They provide training and resources for developers, contribute extensively to the Matter GitHub project, and participate in technical and marketing events hosted by the CSA Member Group of China. Their engagement with Matter began in the early stages of the protocol’s development, demonstrating a deep and sustained commitment to interoperability.

Our collaboration with Telink

Our partnership with Telink represents a significant milestone in the advancement of Matter interoperability. Together, we have developed a comprehensive testing service tailored to Telink’s new Matter chipset solutions. This collaboration is built on several key pillars:

  1. Automated and customised testing

We created dedicated test scenarios based on Telink’s specific requirements. These scenarios cover critical aspects of device behaviour, including onboarding, control, and long-term stability under repeated testing. By automating these tests, we ensure faster execution, greater reliability, and improved quality—all at a cost comparable to manual testing.

  1. Ecosystem integration

Our testing framework supports the most important smart home ecosystems targeted by Telink’s clients, including Google Home, Apple Home, and Samsung SmartThings. This ensures that Telink’s products are fully interoperable across the platforms that matter most to their customers.

  1. Independent third-party reporting

We provide Telink with independent, third-party reports that offer a professional evaluation of their products’ performance. These reports are formatted and structured in collaboration with Telink to ensure they can be used effectively in client presentations and marketing materials. This transparency and credibility are crucial for building trust with end users and business partners.

  1. Global delivery with local support

The service is delivered through our Resillion China team, offering local language support and timely execution. However, the underlying automation framework is a collaborative effort involving our teams in China, the UK, and Belgium. This global-local approach ensures consistency, scalability, and responsiveness.

A milestone achievement: the first automated matter IOP sale

This collaboration with Telink was born from a direct and insightful conversation with their technical representatives during a CSA Member Group China (CMGC) event. We identified their need for automation and quality assurance and quickly moved to develop a prototype. The success of this prototype led to a formal agreement covering multiple projects.

This marks a major milestone for us: our first automated Matter Interoperability (IOP) sale. It is a testament to the trust Telink has placed in our capabilities and a strong validation of our approach to automated testing. More importantly, it lays a solid foundation for expanding our services in the Matter ecosystem.
