What’s new in Matter 1.4.2: From scenes to security and beyond
We’re excited to share the latest enhancements in the upcoming Matter 1.4.2 update from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), which develops the Matter standard and other related programmes.
This release brings a host of new features, improvements and fixes designed to boost performance, security and user experience.
Wi-Fi commissioning with USD / PAF support
There’s now added support for Wi-Fi Public Action Frame (PAF) commissioning, including PAFTP fragmentation and reassembly over the Unsynchronised Service Discovery (USD) protocol.
Enhanced vendor ID verification
A new and improved vendor ID verification scheme strengthens security and trust by validating fabric information more robustly.
Scenes management now fully integrated
The Scenes Cluster, in development since the start of Matter in 2023, is now ready for full integration – enabling more seamless scene creation and control.
Improved device identification time
Enhanced handling of Matter device identification time now contributes to smoother and more efficient operations.
Device attestation revocation support
The CSA has introduced Certificate Revocation List (CRL) support to enhance device attestation and security.
Node reconfiguration and version tracking
Devices can now be reconfigured more easily, with version changes tracked for better configuration management.
Endpoint-unique ID attribute added
The Descriptor Cluster now includes an Endpoint-UniqueID attribute, enabling more precise device endpoint recognition across multiple paths.
Robotic vacuum cleaner operational state bug fixes
The release introduces new operational states and error handling for robotic vacuum cleaners, including:
- EmptyingDustBin: Device is auto-emptying into a dock
- CleaningMop: Device is auto-cleaning its mop
- FillingWaterTank: Device is auto-filling its clean water tank
- UpdatingMaps: Device is updating its internal maps
- Clarification for GoHome behaviour and improved the Vacuum Then Mop sequence.
HRAP certifications and Wi-Fi low-power support
The CSA has aligned with WFA feature support for large-scale Matter deployments and sleepy devices, improving energy efficiency and scalability.
Expanded test coverage and tooling
This release includes increased test coverage for valves, fans, the Interactive Data Model and Access Control, plus updated test plans, scripts and bug fixes, and added test harness support for the Platform Certification Programme.
