Why USB testing matters

Partner with Resillion as we are an USB-IF authorized independent test Lab (ITL) for USB device testing and certification. Whether you’re developing a USB peripheral, embedded host, or full system, our expert engineers provide comprehensive testing.

With the EU mandating USB Type-C® ports on all portable battery powered devices today, and laptops by 2026, manufacturers must ensure their products are compliant, interoperable and future-proof. Many other countries are following the EU by requiring or recommending USB Type-C®.

Our testing services help you:

  • Validate compliance with EU legislation and USB standards (USB4, USB3.2, USB2.0 USB PD and more)
  • Identify and resolve interoperability issues before market launch
  • Optimise charging performance and safety
  • Avoid costly recalls and regulatory penalties

Interoperability testing: real-world assurance

Interoperability testing ensures your USB product performs reliably across a wide range of third-party devices, operating systems and usage scenarios. It’s not just about passing a spec, it’s about confirming your device behaves predictably in the field.

Device-to-device compatibility

Your product is tested against a curated matrix of over 300 USB source, sink, and data devices. This includes a mix of certified and non-certified hosts, hubs and peripherals across multiple generations of USB standards (USB4, USB3.2, USB2.0 and USB PD).

Operating system behaviour

We validate USB enumeration, driver loading, and power negotiation across Windows, macOS, Linux and Android environments.

Cable and connector impact

We assess how different USB cable types (passive, active, EPR-rated) affect charging current, data throughput and signal integrity.

Charging interoperability

Charging performance is evaluated across multiple profiles:

  • USB BC 1.2
  • USB PD (SPR and EPR)
  • Proprietary fast charging protocols (e.g. Qualcomm Quick Charge, Apple 2.4A)
  • Charging mode transitions and fallback behaviour

Alternate mode support

If your device supports DisplayPort, HDMI, or Thunderbolt over USB-C, we test negotiation, signal switching, and display output stability.

Stress and edge case scenarios

We simulate real-world conditions such as:

  • Hot-plugging under load
  • Low battery states
  • Cable wear and connector fatigue
  • EMI/EMC interference from adjacent ports

Our USB testing process is built to ensure precision, compliance and transparency

Testbed configuration

Devices are tested using a modular testbed that includes programmable power supplies, USB protocol analysers, and automated switching matrices.

Test execution

Each test case is executed under controlled conditions, with logs captured for voltage/current behaviour, enumeration timing and error states.

Perform pass/fail criteria

  1. Initiate and maintain charging without interruption
  2. Enumerate correctly across all tested hosts
  3. Maintain data integrity under sustained load
  4. Recover gracefully from disconnects or power loss

Custom test scenarios

For products with unique use cases (e.g. automotive infotainment, industrial hubs), we offer tailored interoperability campaigns using customer-supplied or specially procured devices.

USB-IF EU conformity programme support

Ensure your product meets both technical and regulatory expectations for USB-C® performance, safety, and interoperability. To prepare your products for compliance, speak to an expert.

Navigate EU compliance with confidence

The EU’s EU External Power Supply (EPS) Ecodesign legislation and Common Charger Directive mandates USB Type-C® and USB Power Delivery (PD) for power above 15W on a wide range of consumer electronics and external power supplies. To help manufacturers meet these requirements, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has introduced the EU conformity programme, a streamlined path to demonstrate compliance with both USB specifications (IEC 62680) and EU regulations.

Resillion is here to help you meet those requirements efficiently and confidently.

What the programme covers

The USB-IF EU conformity programme validates your product against the minimum mandatory requirements referenced in the EU legislation for:

USB Type-C® and USB PD specifications (IEC 62680 series)

USB 2.0, USB 3.2 and USB4® electrical and protocol compliance

USB battery charging 1.2 and source power test specifications

Functional and interoperability test suites (USB3CV, USB4CV, xHCI CV)

This is a subset of the USB-IF certification programmes for USB-C® and USB Power Delivery, which Resillion also provides.
