Enabling regulatory compliance for a leading UK energy supplier

Challenge

The energy supplier needed to deliver compliant half-hourly data processing across complex regulated ecosystems.

Approach

We validated APIs, interfaces and integrations across the full settlement journey.

Results

Assured MHHS compliance protecting brand reputation and regulatory confidence.

The challenge: Complex half-hourly data transformation

Ofgem’s market-wide half-hourly settlement (MHHS) reform requires energy suppliers to bill customers using actual half-hourly consumption data, not estimates.

For this supplier, the change meant a large-scale technical transformation. Millions of 30-minute data points had to be accurately validated and processed across multiple interconnected systems. Even small errors risked billing accuracy and a loss of customer trust, making scalable testing essential to meet regulatory deadlines.

Key business outcomes

1

Resillion assured regulatory compliance for the energy supplier, protects their brand and reputation, while also supporting their net-zero goals.

2

Reliable up-to-the-minute information now allows the energy provider to match demand to purchasing, giving them savings they can pass on to their customers.

3

The solution supports the UK’s Net Zero strategy by enabling greater integration of renewable green energy into the national grid.

4

We saved the energy provider time and money with an efficient and targeted testing strategy.

Our approach: End-to-end assurance and scalable testing

We brought in a team of energy-testing specialists to deliver full end-to-end assurance across functional, non-functional, and integration testing. Our approach was to use a simple, layered structure designed specifically for half-hourly settlement, with automated tests that simulate high-volume data flows, check consumption accuracy, and validate settlement behaviour under real-world conditions.

Our team tested all interfaces, APIs, and third-party connections to ensure everything worked smoothly and data moved reliably across the entire journey. We also developed repeatable test assets and automation-ready frameworks to help the provider reduce ongoing effort and keep their testing future-proof.

Half-hourly settlement touches every part of the energy ecosystem - from meter to market. Our job was to make sure the organisation could deliver it at scale, without missing a beat.

What we delivered

Functional and non-functional testing for MHHS readiness

End-to-end integration and system assurance

Testing of APIs, interfaces and data flows

Ongoing test delivery and engineering support

Results: Energy regulation compliance

With Resillion’s support, the energy supplier achieved assured compliance with MHHS, protecting its brand and reputation while supporting its net-zero ambitions. The new testing approach delivered reliable, up-to-the-minute consumption data, allowing the organisation to better match demand with energy purchasing. They could then pass on the savings to their customers.

At the same time, the solution supports the UK’s wider Net Zero strategy by enabling greater integration of renewable energy into the national grid. By replacing manual complexity with an efficient, targeted testing strategy, the supplier reduced both time and cost and ended up with a scalable foundation which would allow them to innovate going forward.
