Challenge: Strengthening cyber security for housing associations

Housing associations across the UK face growing cyber threats such as ransomware, phishing and data breaches – risks amplified by the rapid digitalisation of data during and after the pandemic.
Anchor Hanover Group, the largest provider of specialist housing and care for older people in England, manages over 40,000 customers across more than 1,000 locations. With such a large digital footprint, protecting sensitive customer and supplier data was essential.
After merging Anchor Trust and Hanover Housing in 2018, the organisation sought a trusted partner to improve its cyber defences, and foster a strong security culture while working within tight public-sector budgets.

Our approach: Building a long-term cyber security partnership

We first worked with Anchor on a one-off penetration test, which evolved into a trusted partnership. Impressed by the results, Anchor appointed us as its sole cyber security supplier for 12 months – later extended to a multi-year contract.
Resillion provided a full suite of cyber security services for housing associations, including penetration testing, managed detection and response (MDR), and audit and advisory support.
This flexible, collaborative approach helped Anchor strengthen its cyber posture, embed a security-aware culture among staff, and ensure the continuity of essential housing and care services.

The partnership improved threat detection, incident response and staff awareness, greatly reducing the risk of data breaches. By bringing all cyber services under one supplier, Anchor became more efficient, removed duplicate tools and improved long-term protection for residents, partners and day-to-day operations.
